Umamii is better with friends: referrals, Group Planner, and smarter Chat

Eating out is more fun with friends. It is also easier when you have the right tools to pick a place quickly, agree on the vibe, and actually commit to a plan.

That is why we built Umamii’s friend features around a simple idea: discovery works better when it is shared.

Invite friends, plan together, and get recommendations built for both of you.

1) Referrals: build your trusted circle

Umamii learns from what you love, but it also gets stronger when your friends are in the mix. When you invite friends to join, you unlock a more social, more trustworthy experience:

  • More people to follow who match your taste

  • More shared saves and lists you can swap

  • More new dining experiences to discover

  • More confidence when you are deciding where to go

Think of it like this: the best recommendations usually come from people who know you. Referrals help you bring those people into Umamii.

How to use it

  1. Open Umamii

  2. Go to your Profile

  3. Tap Invite friends

  4. Send your link or invite code to 2 to 3 friends you actually dine with (or more). They will bypass the waitlist too.

2) Group Planner: agree on a place in minutes

Group chats are great until it is time to decide. That is where Group Planner helps. It is built for the moment when you have a few people, a few preferences, and no time to debate. It is also perfect when you want to find a new spot that matches the whole group’s vibe.

Group Planner is perfect for:

  • Date nights

  • Double dates

  • Small groups

  • Out of town friends visiting

  • Lunch or dinner with colleagues

Instead of going back and forth or researching across different sites, you get a smarter short list and a faster path to a decision that matches everyone’s tastes.

3) Umamii Chat: ask “where should we eat?” and tag a friend

Sometimes you just want to ask the question the way you would text a friend.

Now in Umamii Chat, you can ask where you and a friend should eat, and tag one friend to pull them into the conversation.

Try prompts like:

  • “Where should @Alex and I go for ramen near us?”

  • “Pick a fun spot for me and @Jamie that feels lively but not too loud.”

  • “@Samantha and I want a casual dinner and great cocktails. What should we do tonight?”

Tag your friend with their @ handle and we will recommend options based on both of your preferences. To match you properly, you will need to be mutually following each other.

The easiest way to get started

If you do one thing today, do this: invite one friend you trust, then try Group Planner or Umamii Chat.

The most enjoyable moments are often shared over dinner (or lunch) with your closest friends and family. So why gatekeep? The best recommendations should be shared too.
